Saanjo: First ever Script of Language of Masses – Punjabi and Allied.

It was lovely to sit by Beeba Aslam Saanju, my eldest brother and listen memoirs about his early childhood days. He told , though he was born in Gojra – a town near Faisalabad, then Lyallpur.

Our father worked in Telephone Department and had been posted in Gojra.

Later on family rturned back to ancestral village ” Naagaan ” in Amritsar.

Beeba Aslam Saanju went to school in Naagaan. Our eldest sister also studied in the same school.

It is nice that our father Muhammad Ibrahim approached the then authorities to sanction approval to authorize the school management to allow admission to the girls. This is what our eldest sister Masooda Beebi had told us.

Beeba Aslam Saanju studied there in the school in Naagaan / Amritsar before the family moved to Lahore in the days of political unrest in 1947.

Beeba Aslam Saanju told that the school had situated on GT Road so was the village Naagaan / Amritsar. He remembered well a mile stone on the road which read ” Amritsar 9 miles ”

My eldest sister had told that there were two Naagaan .Whadiaan Naagaan and Nikkian Naagaan . Our family lived in vhaddiaan Naagaan.

It was interesting to listen that Beeba Aslam Saanju had run after the taanga for mile or more chasing parents who were going to Chaapa ( Village Name ) but then he got exhausted and fell flat on the road. Then off-course no choice left with the parents but to stop taanga and board him on the taanga and took him with them to chaapa

Now a days I am here in Faisalabad with Beeba Aslam Saanju and will stay with him for weeks two or so.

Chaapa is name of village our father belongeged to.But our family got settled in Naagaan – village our mother belonged to.
